Journaling for Yourself

Learn to get in touch with the silence within yourself and know that everything in life has a purpose. ~ Henry David Thou

Most true happiness comes from one’s inner life, from the disposition of the mind and soul. Admittedly, a good inner life is difficult to achieve, especially in these trying times. It takes reflection and contemplation and self-discipline. ~W.L. Shirer

I used to keep a personal journal through Middle and High School. For some reason, I haven’t kept one since. And I miss it. It doesn’t matter if you’re a writer or not. It’s important to have a place to be yourself 110% and preferably with pen and paper you can keep completely private.

Until today, I didn’t realize how many different journals I had to keep certain topics separate. This one for Career and journey through life, in general, my coffee blog to share my passion, a Poetry notebook, and a Writer’s notebook for prompts and story ideas. And a diary to be myself that nobody sees

New Journal
A new year is the perfect excuse to get a new journal. I really like the Moleskines, but I tend to write a lot, so I got a much thicker journal that’s spiral bound and inspirational colors on the front. Barnes & Noble always has great Journals.

The Write Utensil
What’s writing without a pen that feels good in your hand and flows across your paper? I prefer cheap 1.0 mm, Medium Point, Ballpoint Pens.

No Excuses
Instead of getting overwhelmed and feeling like I should write in a journal everyday, I’ll write when…

  • I have a lot on my mind
  • There is no one to talk to
  • To solve problems
  • Highlight something great
  • To keep busy when I’m anxious

A Place for Everything Else
My Goals for starting to Journal again are to accomplish a few things

  1. Become a better writer
  2. Learn to filter what I say and how I say it for better communication
  3. Become more creative
  4. Document my life
  5. More Self-disciplined
  6. Focus more
  7. Become more logical
  8. Improve memory

Here’s a great site I found on keeping a Journal if you are starting one or already have one.

Happy Journaling!

  1. Journaling is my thing and I write in four seperate journals. Do you have multiple journals?

    • Hi Dale,

What topics do you use your journals for?

I use to have a few different journals, but now I keep two – one for documenting my Entrepreneurial journey and life, the other is jotting down ideas when i’m away from my computer.

  2. Journaling is my thing and I have three separate journals. Do you have multiple journals?
