Tenacity’s Tendencies

There is a difference between looking for a job and finding opportunity.

To look for a job is putting applications out everywhere. To find an opportunity takes persistence – you have to know where to look and know it’s there to grab it. Then, you must make it happen.

I had found a local Freelance Copywriter online and began e-mailing him for advice on where to start looking for projects, since he’s a native. We e-mailed for a few days and I started to learn more than I had hoped.

Yesterday, I was checking out his website to get ideas for my FAQ page on my website. He had 3 pages of FAQ’s and I happen to read them all this time, and I’m glad I did. On the last page, I saw he was looking for an intern. Since we had been in touch already, I’d let him know I was up to the challenge, just to see what he says.

This morning I checked my e-mail, hoping for a reply. It was a great morning at that. He will let me take on some projects, get an ‘inside look’ at how he accomplishes projects and invited me to attend a couple lectures that are coming up. Although it’s not a paying internship, which was expected, but the rewards are even better. I get to build my portfolio, work at home most the time and receive a review plastered on Linkedin.com! What a great early birthday present.

A friend calls me tenacious – she’s not kidding either. It’s amazing what can be accomplished if you go out and look. If I can do it, so can you! Take that drive inside you and let it steer you in the right direction. You never know what can happen.

Nothing in the world can take the place of Persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan ‘Press On’ has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race.
